Prof. Kevin Butler recently received the honor of being conferred one of only two Arnold and Lisa Goldberg Rising Star Professorships in Computer Science by the University of Florida. Accompanied by a half-million dollar endowment, the award is in recognition of his efforts in leading research on uncovering smart phone vulnerabilities. Butler’s research focuses on the security of computers, from embedded and mobile devices to cloud computing systems, and the data that they generate. The weakness he discovered in his research could allow hackers to easily take control of phones and extract private information without users ever knowing.
