Dr. Rampazzi Cyber-physical System Security Lab (CPSec Lab)
The Cyber-physical System Security (CPSec) Lab of Dr. Rampazzi is equipped with a wide range of sensors, such as infrared sensors, CMOS sensors, 2D and 3D LiDARs, MEMS motion sensors, stereocameras, and acoustic sensors. The laboratory includes a variety of IoAT systems such as smartspeakers, smartphones, medical devices readers and monitoring systems, and automotive and drone frameworks. The instrumentation of the laboratory consists of RF signal generators, RF transmitters and receivers (USRPs) and a wide range of antennas. The laboratory has several power amplifiers and attenuators, RF filters, mixers, couplers, and it is also equipped with several software-defined radios and workstations, which are used for implementing and testing digital and analog signal processing algorithms for educational laboratories. The laboratory also includes (1) instrumentation for acoustic analysis such as MEMS microphones, loudspeakers, and headphones for acoustic spectrum analysis (including hydrophones and underwater speakers), and (2) equipment for controlled laser injection analysis, such as a wide range of lenses, mirrors, and optical filters, laser drivers, photodiodes, and optical power meters.
Research Areas:
HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS SECURITY & SAFETY
Signal injection attacks on safety-critical medical devices.
We study the reliability of medical devices from a security and safety perspective. In our research we demonstrate that adversaries could remotely manipulate critical health devices using various types of signal injection. We then propose several defenses strategies to mitigate the vulnerabilities.
Safe wireless sensor technology for decontamination process verification
Global shortages of disposable masks have led to the emergency construction of various decontamination systems for the reuse of disposable masks worn by healthcare workers. This research project has tackled the urgent need for the deployment of highly scalable, safe, and trustworthy sensor network technology for monitoring and validation of mask decontamination treatments.
AUTONOMOUS SYSTEMS SECURITY
Physical attacks on autonomous vehicles perception
We study methodologies to ensure the safety and security of passengers in next-generation autonomous transportation systems.
IOT & MOBILE SYSTEM SECURITY & PRIVACY
Oversensing & Side Channels
Sensors can perceive more than what they have been designed for. Mobile systems, IoTs, and smart home devices are susceptible to various vulnerabilities that attackers can exploit to acquire secret information or gain control over the systems.
Innovative Authentication Systems
Physical signals can be used to enhance authentication procedures for new generation IoT devices and AR/VR systems. Our laboratory investigates innovative solutions to improve security and access control.
HARDWARE & SOFTWARE SECURITY
Storage System Security
Investigating sofware and hardware vulnerabilities is necessary for secure systems and critical infrastructures.
