Dr. Wertheim Visit to UF

We were honored to welcome Dr. Herbert Wertheim to the University of Florida and present some of the research within FICS. Dr. Wertheim’s visit was an inspiring opportunity for students, faculty, and researchers to engage with a visionary whose contributions have profoundly shaped the future of science, innovation, and education at the University of Florida.
FICS Director Kevin Butler (pictured above with Dr. Wertheim), faculty members Sara Rampazzi, CISE Interim Department Chair Patrick Traynor, and ECE Director Mark M. Tehranipoor, along with Ph.D. students Jordan Greene, Hrushikesh Varma, and Zahin Ibnat, had the opportunity to showcase their research through live demonstrations and interactive Q&A sessions

ACM Sigsac Conference on Computer and Communications Security

Two FICS students recently presented their work at the ACM Symposium held in Taipei, Taiwan.
Daniel Olszewski (pictured above), advised by Dr. Patrick Traynor, presented his dissertation titled “Towards Defining Reproducible Outcomes for the Security Community.” His research focuses on advancing reproducibility standards within the cybersecurity research community.
Carson Stillman (picture below) presented “Enabling Secure and Efficient Data Loss Prevention with a Retention-aware Versioning SSD.”This project is a collaborative effort with former FICS Ph.D. student Weidong Zhu, who recently graduated and is now an assistant professor at Florida International University, and faculty members Dr. Rampazzi and Dr. Butler, exploring innovative approaches to data security and storage efficiency.(Read More)

UF Research Foundation Names Two FICS Faculty as USRF Professors

We’re proud to announce that both Dr. Kevin Butler and Dr. Prabhat Mishra (pictured above) have been named University of Florida Research Foundation (UFRF) Professors.
This prestigious recognition honors the university’s most innovative and productive faculty — those with a strong record of research and scholarship and exceptional potential for continued success.
UFRF Professors are selected based on recommendations from their college deans, nominations from department chairs, a personal statement, and an evaluation of their recent research accomplishments. These include scholarly publications, external funding, honors and awards, intellectual property development, and other key measures of achievement in their respective fields. (Read More)
2025 US-UK Semiconductor Security Symposium

FICS Associate Director Dr. Farimah Farahmandi recently presented her research on Using AI to improve pre-silicon security verification as part of the UK RISE Semiconductor Security Symposium. (Read More)
