Dr. Patrick Traynor and FICS Director Kevin Butler win Best Paper Award
Congratulations to Dr. Patrick Traynor and FICS Research Director Kevin Butler. They received a Best Paper award at the ACM Conference on Data and Application Security and Privacy for their work on examining the security of cellular network infrastructure and the cryptography used in cellular core systems. This work was authored in collaboration with researchers at North Carolina State University and presented in June in Porto, Portugal.
FICS Associate Director wins ACM/IEEE DAC under 40 Innovators Award.
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
FICS Research student presents research at DAC 2024
FICS Research Ph.D. student Galib Ibne Haidar presented his research at the Design Automation Conference (DAC). His work examines the shift in the semiconductor industry from System-on-Chips (SoCs) to System-in-Packages (SiPs). A key focus of his research is the IEEE 1838 standard, which aims to facilitate testing in this heterogeneous integration domain.
The GATE-SiP research paper highlights vulnerabilities in the IEEE 1838 standard, identifying several attack vectors, including man-in-the-middle, tamper, sniffing, and spoofing attacks. The paper also proposes solutions to these vulnerabilities, introducing a novel protocol designed to extend the standard. Specifically, the GATE-SiP research includes a new authentication protocol to counter man-in-the-middle attacks, and a partial encryption protocol to prevent tamper, sniffing, and spoofing attacks.
The inaugural FICS Research Summit on Cybersecurity for Small Business is scheduled for October 4th in the new Malachowsky Hall. Please contact Moriah@ufl.edu further details.
