Welcoming John Oakley to the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research

The Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research (FICS) is pleased to welcome John Oakley as a Professor of Practice in Computer & Information Science & Engineering (CISE) and the institute’s lead external liaison.

Mr. Oakley is a visionary technology leader and former Science Director at SRC, where he led high-impact research efforts in AI Hardware, Hardware Security, Semiconductor Packaging, Analog/Mixed-Signal Design, CAD/Test, Automotive Electronics, and AI-driven Supply Chain solutions. He is widely recognized for building strategic collaborations across government, academia, and industry, helping shape national research agendas and innovation ecosystems.

With more than 20 years of experience in mixed-signal architecture, John has held key roles at Intel, Motorola, Freescale, and Fujitsu. He holds 12 patents and has delivered 55+ integrated devices, many deployed at scale. His expertise includes modem and transceiver systems for cellular platforms and extensive involvement in 3GPP standards. As Vice Chair of the MIPI RFFE Working Group and an active contributor to RIO and TSG, he has played a significant role in defining global mobile interface protocols. John is also a frequent speaker at major technical conferences, including ECTC, ECS, SELSE, MDTS, NSF, and others. He is an alumnus of Texas A&M University.

John’s accomplishments and expertise will strengthen FICS’ national leadership in cybersecurity research and enhance UF’s ability to pursue major multidisciplinary research initiatives. FICS and the Gator Nation are excited to welcome him to the community.
