WISE (Women in Hardware and Systems Security)
The WiSE conference honors women of distinction in the engineering field. The conference assembles a multitude of pre-college, undergraduate and graduate students together for educational and professional enrichment.
University of Florida student Angela Newsome won first place WISE 2018 Best Poster Award for her poster entitled “Multi-Mode Micromechanical Resonant Tags for Traceability and Authentication Applications,” and UF student Sreeja Chowhurdy won second place WISE 2018 Best Poster Award for her poster entitled “Recycled AMS counterfeit IC detection using LDO Aging degradation.”
Ph.D. student Sumaiya Shomaji University of Florida FICS Research received the best poster award at 2017 WiSE (Workshop for Women in Hardware and Systems Security) conference.
Sarasota County High School’s Visit FICS Research
North Point High School & Venice High School
The University of Florida FICS Research welcomed North Point High School and Venice High School on Wednesday March 21st to explore the state-of-the-art FICS Research laboratory. Students had the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the state of the art equipment and the various research and studies conducted in the ScAN laboratory. Booker High School Takeover
Participating University of Florida Innovation Station High School
Sarasota, FL Booker High School students joined FICS students and faculty in exploring innovative research and cutting-edge technology. Booker High School is one of the target schools of the UF Innovation Station Sarasota County. The UF Innovation Station was established to assist in the development of engineering prospects. The workforce development coordinators Patti Harris and Julee Breehne are helping to introduce students to the field of engineering and motivate them to learn more about the opportunities available at the University of Florida.
Summer Undergraduate Research at Florida
The SURF program provides a 10 week Summer Undergraduate Research experience at the University of Florida. SURF provides the opportunity to work with a premier faculty adviser and a senior Ph.D. student mentor. Students engage in research and spend in depth time furthering their academic path and exploring new intellectual horizons. All participants will receive preferred Ph.D. admission and fellowship offers provided they have a successful summer experience and maintain their level of high academic performance through the completion of their bachelor’s degree. All costs for SURF participants are paid by UF including room and some board, a $5,000 summer stipend, round-trip flights/mileage to Gainesville, summer workshops, social events/activities and a GRE test prep course.
